Homeworks PDF

by Carole Susan Smith, Homeworks Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Homeworks books, Carole's first book took the reader to Yekaterinburg, Gaza City, Goteborg and Taipei, with various other destinations in between. Whilst Southampton, Manchester, Glasgow, and Leeds are not as obviously exotic, you may be surprised by some of her adventures nearer to home. In HomeWorks, her selection of new tales about life, work and travelling around the UK span the late 1960's through to twenty-first century. As you accompany Carole on her journeys, you will discover why packing a torch on a business trip can get you into trouble and how a jacuzzi makes a good meeting room. Spending time with oil executives speaking six different languages poses no problems for her, but trying to understand their technical language does. You may wonder why ninety men were determined to address her as Your Majesty or how come she was standing on a desk quoting Middle English. Her excuse is that she's never been afraid to try something different but you will have to read the whole book to make sense of this!

Homeworks PDF

by Phyllis Tickle, Homeworks Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Homeworks books, This anthology, arriving in Tennessee's bicentennial year, is a bountiful showcase of the state's rich literary output. Like its predecessor, the widely read Homewords, published in 1986 for Tennessee's Homecoming, this new volume feature fiction, poetry, and nonfiction by living writers - from senior literati such as Shelby Foote, John Egerton, and Nikki Giovanni to numerous newly emerging talents, including Ann Patchett, Steve Womack, and Jerome Wilson. The writings contained here are of such rich and marvelous variety that they elude easy reduction to a set of common themes or concerns. Readers of this book, says editor Phyllis Tickle in her preface, will discover the pervasive influence of Native American culture upon Tennessee's worldview - "not so much overt and politically correct as inherent and incorporated". Beyond that, however, the selections are, if anything, characterized by the relative absence of those qualities usually associated with southern literature: the legacy of the Civil War, dialect and colloquialisms, and, most notably, "a sense of place". Yet, however much the posture of Tennessee writers may have shifted from regionalist to citizen of the moment, something essential remains. Throughout these pages, Tickle notes, "there resides the kind of dry, wise humor that is born of endurance and the secured perspective of those who know where and what home is ... which is why, in the end, we settled upon our title, HomeWorks - that is, works of the heart and mind, done from and for home".

Rethinking Homework PDF

by Cathy Vatterott, Rethinking Homework Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Rethinking Homework books, Is homework an essential component of rigorous schooling or a harmful practice that alienates and discourages a significant number of students? The debate over homework has gone on for decades, but schools and families have changed in many ways, and, as author Cathy Vatterott notes, "There's a growing suspicion that something is wrong with homework." Rethinking Homework: Best Practices That Support Diverse Needs examines the role homework has played in the culture of schooling over the years; how such factors as family life, the media, and the "balance movement" have affected the homework controversy; and what research--and educators' common sense--tells us about the effects of homework on student learning. The best way to address the pro- and anti-homework controversy is not to eliminate homework. Instead, the author urges educators to replace the "old paradigm" (characterized by longstanding cultural beliefs, moralistic views, the puritan work ethic, and behaviorist philosophy) with a "new paradigm" based on the following elements: * Designing quality homework tasks; * Differentiating homework tasks; * Deemphasizing grading of homework; * Improving homework completion; and * Implementing homework strategies and support programs. Numerous examples from teachers and schools that have revised their practices and policies for homework illustrate the new paradigm in action. The end product is homework that works--for all students, at all levels.
