A Model Marriage PDF

by Jo Ann Ferguson, A Model Marriage Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download A Model Marriage books, Antonia Locke longs to be slender like her pretty sister, but she is too plump for the ton. That is why she is shocked when Patrick Fairchild, the Duke of Exton, suddenly seems interested in her. She has no idea that he wants to seduce her . . . into posing au naturel for one of his paintings. No one, beyond his household, knows of his love for painting, which is hardly a proper pastime for a duke. But if he can finish this one, he will be happy. All he needs is for Antonia to pose for him, but how can he convince the proper daughter of the village’s schoolmaster to agree? Marriage. He will marry her, paint her portrait, and then live separately from her once she has given him an heir. After all, many men do that, but one thing he can’t imagine being in the picture—falling in love with his model—turns his plans toward a model marriage.

Marriage Divorce And The Abandoned Wife In Jewish Law PDF

by Michael J. Broyde, Marriage Divorce And The Abandoned Wife In Jewish Law Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Marriage Divorce And The Abandoned Wife In Jewish Law books, One of the most vexing problems to confront American Orthodox Jewry is the case of the agunah--a wife abandoned by a husband who refuses to give her a Jewish divorce. This work seeks to explain the agunah problem in the United States. It argues that the agunah problem in contemporary America is part of a more general dispute in classical Jewish law as to when marriage should end. American no-fault divorce law adds a level of complexity, and is both part of the problem and part of the solution. The author concludes that preemption agreements can successfully address the agunah problem in the United States since they provide a way for couples to create an image of marriage and divorce by which they can agree to live.

An Inculturation Model Of The Catholic Marriage Ritual PDF

by David William Antonio, An Inculturation Model Of The Catholic Marriage Ritual Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download An Inculturation Model Of The Catholic Marriage Ritual books, In An Inculturation Model of the Catholic Marriage Ritual, David William Antonio presents a model of how the Catholic Ritual of Marriage may be adapted to the language, culture and traditions of a particular people, specifically, the ilocanos of Northern Luzon in the Philippines. Vatican II called for the revision and adaptation of the rite of marriage, exhorting local churches to develop their own rites suited to their people's particular customs and traditions. The work of preparing a rite of marriage for a particular region cannot be limited to merely translating the typical edition. There has to be a thorough examination of both the editio typica and the people's religious and cultural traditions, the socio-economic and political realities that confront them, attending to the positive values expressed therein. Only a dialogical process such as this will guarantee a liturgy that is faithful to the Christian tradition and meaningful to a given people. An Inculturation Model of the Catholic Marriage Ritual will serve as a model for people of other cultures who have to do similar liturgical preparation and will be important especially to churches whose membership includes people who experienced colonization but never lost the riches of their own cultures in the blending of cultures and beliefs that followed.

Medieval Marriage Sermons PDF

by David D'Avray, Medieval Marriage Sermons Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Medieval Marriage Sermons books, Before the advent of printing, the preaching of the friars was the mass medium of the middle ages. This edition of marriage sermons reveals what a number of famous preachers actually taught about marriage. David D'Avray teases out the close connection between marriage symbolism and social, cultural, and legal realities in the thirteenth century. The relation between genre, content, and gender is analysed, with particular attention to the likely impact of preaching, viewed as a means of intellectual power in competition with vernacular genres and other social forces. Its mass diffusion anticipated printing, but the means of production were those of the monastic scriptorium. Professor D'Avray's textual criticism and palaeographical analsyis of these sermons undermines central assumptions of both medieval and early modern historians of the book. He establishes a technique of textual criticism appropriate for texts of this kind: a pragmatic compromise between simple transcriptions which ignore stemmatic relation and full-scale editions attempting to fit all manuscripts into a genealogical table, Medieval Marriage Sermons makes an important contribution both to the sermon literature of the period, and to our understanding of marriage and its religious and cultural significance in the middle ages.
